Program Highlight:

The Hands-On VATS Fellowship is a specialized training program designed to provide thoracic surgeons and surgical trainees with advanced, practical experience in minimally invasive thoracic surgery techniques. This intensive fellowship focuses on Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS), equipping participants with the skills and confidence required to perform a range of thoracic procedures using minimally invasive approaches.

Fellows will receive hands-on training in procedures such as lung biopsies, lobectomies, wedge resections, pleural biopsies, and decortication. The program emphasizes key technical competencies, including thoracoscopic port placement, endoscopic visualization, instrumentation, tissue handling, hemostasis, and safe dissection techniques.

Training is conducted under expert supervision in high-volume centers or advanced surgical simulation labs, with a strong focus on patient safety, surgical precision, and clinical decision-making. Fellows will also gain exposure to perioperative care, intraoperative challenges, and postoperative management of patients undergoing thoracoscopic procedures.

By the end of the fellowship, participants will have developed the technical expertise and clinical acumen necessary to independently perform VATS procedures and incorporate minimally invasive thoracic surgery into their routine practice, improving outcomes and reducing recovery times for their patients.
